Safety Guide for Suspended Basket Operations: Prohibited Environments and Absolute Red Lines

As a crucial piece of equipment for building exterior wall construction, the safety of aerial work platforms relies heavily on standardized operating environments and strict operational discipline. Identifying prohibited environments and adhering to insurmountable safety red lines are fundamental prerequisites for ensuring the safety of workers.

一. Environmental Conditions Unsuitable for Suspended Basket Use

Suspended basket operations are by no means "all-weather" tools. Operations should be discontinued immediately in the following environments:

1. Severe Weather Conditions

The use of suspended baskets is strictly prohibited when wind speeds exceed level 4 (8m/s), heavy rain, heavy snow, or dense fog occur. Strong winds can cause the platform to sway violently and collide with structures; rain and snow not only make the platform slippery but can also cause electrical shorts or structural corrosion; and heavy fog severely impairs the operator's vision, making misjudgment highly likely.

2. Complex Electromagnetic Environments

When working near high-voltage transmission lines (especially ultra-high voltage), the suspended basket must maintain a sufficient safe distance. Otherwise, if the distance is too close, arc discharges may occur, seriously threatening personnel safety. Safety distances must comply with national electricity regulations and generally require a distance of at least 5 meters.

3. Special Operating Environments

Suspended baskets are not suitable for deployment in factory areas where explosive gases or corrosive substances are present, or under intersecting work surfaces where objects could fall. These environments not only accelerate equipment wear and tear but also pose significant, unpredictable risks.

4. Inadequately Lighted Environments

Operation is prohibited at night or in areas with severely insufficient indoor lighting without adequate, uniform, and glare-free lighting. Operators cannot clearly interpret the environment and instructions, making accidents highly likely.

二. Safety Red Lines that Must Be Adhered to

In addition to environmental restrictions, the following safety red lines are bottom lines that must not be crossed at any time or under any circumstances:

Red Line 1: Overloading is Strictly Prohibited

Each suspended basket has a clearly defined load rating (including the total weight of personnel and materials). Overloading can directly lead to hoist overload, wire rope breakage, or suspension mechanism instability, resulting in devastating consequences. The total weight must be accurately calculated before operation. 

Red Line 2: Ensure Effective Fixing

The basket's suspension mechanism (front/rear supports, counterweights, and anchor points) must be secure and reliable. The counterweight must be adequately loaded and stable; misappropriation is strictly prohibited. The rollover coefficient must meet national standards. The front support must not be supported on non-load-bearing structures such as parapets. This is the foundation of the basket system's stability.

Red Line 3: Personnel Must Properly Wear Safety Belts

Workers must wear safety helmets and securely attach their safety belts to a separate safety rope (lifeline) via a self-locking device. Never attach a safety belt to the basket itself (this will be useless if the basket falls). This is the last resort in the event of an accident.

Red Line 4: Never Operate Equipment While Faulty

A pre-shift inspection must be conducted daily before use. If any of the following conditions are detected, such as broken wires, excessive wear and tear in the hoist, abnormal hoist noise, inoperative safety locks, or cracks or severe corrosion in structural components, the equipment must be immediately removed from service and reported for repair. No room for error. 

Red Line 5: Illegal Operations and Unauthorized Modifications Are Strictly Prohibited

Non-professionals are prohibited from disassembling or modifying safety devices; removing travel limits without authorization; and using the suspended platform as a welding circuit or for vertical material transportation. All operations must strictly adhere to operating procedures.

In short, the safe operation of a suspended platform is a systematic project. Respecting the limitations of the natural environment, adhering to absolute safety red lines, and establishing a rigorous inspection and operation system are the greatest respect and protection for the lives of every aerial worker. Safety is paramount; there is no room for compromise or negligence.
